- Cleansing for fertility??
- How would doing a cleanse have an effect on my ability to conceive a child?
- Isn't a cleanse just used for losing weight?
I get asked these questions on a daily basis from my new fertility clients. Cleansing the body has more of an effect on your chances of getting pregnant and preventing miscarriage than you may think. Im so excited today to share with you some information on how cleansing the body of toxins that you may be exposed to and carrying around can have an overwhelming affect on so many functions in the body that relate to your fertility and overall hormonal balance.
This subject is such and expansive and deep subject that it would be impossible to do much more than scratch the surface in just one blog post but I will start with some basics for you.
Many years ago when I was completing my coursework for my PhD I began to start pondering the topics that I might want to write my dissertation on knowing full well that this area of research was going to be a major undertaking and consume me for a matter of months to years. I went back and forth between many subject ideas but always came back to the same thing. What my heart really wanted to explore was why the overwhelmingly high rate of couples today were experiencing both known complications and unexplained infertility.
At the time of my research it was estimated that 1 in 6 reported couples experienced infertility and I expect that today that number has risen even higher. Why were so many people around me having such a hard time with something that is innately inherent in our body to accomplish in our lifetime?
Well after doing months of research and putting hundreds of clients through natural fertility programs that I designed using my research, I recognized a major common link. This link was an overload of toxins in the body disrupting our natural body processes.
When the women in my office came to me with fertility complications I would evaluate their health history and toxin level and start all of them on a customized cleansing program to rebalance hormones, improve digestion, balance PH level, and flood the body with nutrients that were depleted. What happened next was jaw dropping!!!
One after one over the next 6 months those clients started calling me with excitement telling me they had just found out they were pregnant! This has since been the passion behind my wellness center and why I developed my unique customized natural fertility wellness program but we will talk about that in another blog or you can feel free to check it out on my website.
But lets get back to cleansing and infertility now which is why you are reading this blog in the first place.
We are constantly exposed to a very large amount of toxins on a daily basis from the water we drink to the food we eat, the cleaning products we use in our home and work place, and even our personal care products we use on our body. The benefits of cleansing for fertility are many. The most important goal of a fertility cleanse is to cleanse the liver of unwanted toxins and excess hormones and to stimulate fresh blood flow to the organs particularly the uterus clearing it of old stagnant blood.
Cleansing can be as simple or deep as you choose and any type of cleanse that you choose to embark upon will have some sort of a positive effect on you so if all you can do right now is start slow and easy then that is exactly what you should do. Never push yourself past your comfort level when it comes to a cleanse. Cleanses are not meant to be torturous or miserable. They are simply meant to focus on putting great healing and cleansing foods into the body while you work on eliminating those foods that cause you trouble.
Foods you will typically want to avoid during a cleanse:
- Sugar: refined sugar is an anti-nutrient meaning it does more harm than good. Sugar strips the body of vital nutrients, lowers immune function, and causes acidity and inflammation.
- Caffeine: can cause acidity in body lowering PH, stresses adrenals putting added stress on the system.
- Grains: especially gluten which can stress the digestive system.
- Dairy: Allergenic, creates a mucous environment, acidic, can increase inflammation and can increase presence of undesirable yeast and fungus in body.
- Most nuts which can be enzyme inhibiting and cause stress on digestive system
Foods to include in a cleanse:
- Lemon
- Lean Protein including eggs with the yolks
- Greens, greens, and more greens
- kale
- asparagus
- broccoli
- chard
- brussel sprouts
- dandelion
- spinach
- etc
- Non starchy vegetables
- Avocados
- Coconut
- Hemp seeds
- Chia Seeds
- Fruit (low sugar such as berries)
- Homemade bone broth
- Fresh herbs
- Flax seeds and oil
- Olive oil
I also recommend that my clients add in some extra fiber, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and additional omega 3's.
*All foods during a cleanse should be organic, grass fed or free range.
Cleansing may not be the only thing you need in order to get pregnant and my clients typically need other support based on their unique situations but a cleanse is a great way to begin any fertility program and help clear the body of unwanted toxins while relieving some stress on the body.
